I took this photo in a tiny village in southern County Donegal, IrelandTime
I was tout=ring Ireland in a rental car and had just had my lunch in a pub nearby. Ireland is such a beautiful country that it is easy just to be seduced by the scenery and keep moving to the next breathtaking view without stopping too record an image. This time I did stop and walk back and forth along the river bank, trying to decide where the best shot was. In the end necessity made the decision for me. There was a tiny breeze blowing so I decided I had to slow the shutter speed a little to make the best of the reflection. I didn't have a tripod so I chose the only spot where there was a post to help steady the camera and then it was just a matter of framing the image.Lighting
The light in Ireland is almost always beautiful. It's as if it is always about an hour before sunset.Equipment
No tripod, no filter, just my Canon 7D and a mid-range Canon zoom lens.Inspiration
This was one of those Irish villages where you feel you could spend a year and never run out of shots to take. The light, the river, the whole environmentEditing
The image is straight from the camera as I always strive to achieve. In my camera bag
These days I have a Canon 5Dsr, as good a camera as I ever want. Apart from my 100mm macro and a 5mm f1.4 all my lenses are zoom, starting at 16-40, the 24-105 and then covering the range to 400mm. I also have 2x extender which I use with the 100-400 for the occasional sports shoot.Feedback
The way to capture this kind of image is to go to Ireland and just shoot everywhere, but thoughtfully. In the rest of the world it is harder! And then patience and being prepared to walk and walk and climb and climb and remain aware of what is around you and what the light is doing.
