Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken near Cass in the South Island of New Zealand in winter of 2016.

Time

The photo was taken in the early evening before sunset.

Lighting

I only use natural lighting in my photos, however I have added contrast and some colour edit to the photo in post

Equipment

I shot the photo on my Canon 1100D, with its standard 55mm lens, no tripod was used. As the road is a country road I waited for no cars and took the photo.

Inspiration

I went out for a drive with a couple friends who also wanted to take a photo of the mountains with snow on them. I live in such a beautiful country and the scenery is often changing.

Editing

I used Aperture and added contrast after playing with the exposure and brightness settings.

In my camera bag

I have a very standard camera kit. I brought the Canon 1100D twin lens kit and often carry this round on the bag with me when I travel. I have also brought a shutter release remote for trying slow shutter photos.

Feedback

Always carry a camera in the car with you when traveling, take many photos in the same location as when you look at them on screen this helps you pick out the better ones, such as layout and weather they are in focus. Do not be afraid to try different angles and think outside the square. Most important your safety comes first, this photo was taken in the middle of an open road, cars and trucks often come pass, do not attempt this sort of photo with young children or during busy traffic times.
