Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on the North Shore of Oahu at a place called Sharks Cove. This is my friends and my favorite place to freedive.

Time

This was taken in mid-afternoon.

Lighting

All of the lighting is coming from the sun in this photo. It has been darkened a bit because it's about 40 feet under water and the light gets absorbed.

Equipment

For this photo only a GoPro 3+ black was used.

Inspiration

Most of my underwater photos are spontaneous. Whenever I go diving I take pictures of everything I think looks beautiful. Some of them turn out like this and actually look good.

Editing

All I did was put the picture in black and white and lower the exposure.

In my camera bag

In this case, when I'm going diving the only thing I have in my "bag" is my gopro. It's small and easy to freedive with.

Feedback

The trick for capturing underwater pictures is to have the right lighting. Especially underwater, the light gets absorbed and the picture looks dull. Something I like to do is have the sun be behind the subject, so that you can see the source of light and it's rays shooting through the water.
