Location
My homeland of South Africa has a beautiful mountain range called the Drakensburg mountains. The mountains offer amazing hiking trails where you can wander for hours absorbing the beauty of nature. This photo was taken while I was hiking through a shallow valley with the gentle slopes of the mountain up above me.Time
The sun was setting after a hot day, and the sound of thunder far away hinted that there may be rain within the next hour or so. The mixture of the darkening sky and the last rays of sun accentuated the natural colour of the clouds during the twilight.Lighting
The lighting of the yellow cloud against the dark background grabbed my attention immediately. The unusual natural colours made it a once in a lifetime shot!Equipment
This was shot with a Canon IXY digital, with a zoom lens 4x IS, 5.0-20.00mm.Inspiration
I am addicted to beautiful and unique structures in nature; the abstract and unusual always catch my eye as I love to find beauty in the unexpected places of life. This shot immediately struck me as unique in its colouring with the bent trees adding an unusual silhouette to the fluffy clouds and streaked sky.Editing
The photo went through very minor editing as I slightly increased the contrast and also the saturation. This allowed the colours of the cloud and sky to be accentuated, which was my focus with the picture. In my camera bag
My photography equipment is sparce to say the least. My faithful old Canon travels with me on hiking trips and holidays, but in the spur of the moment I use my iPhone 6 camera which I find captures some amazing shots. The angle and composure of the shot go a long way toward making a beautiful photo, and any tweaking that needs to be afterwards is painless once the picture has been moved to my PC.Feedback
In my humble experience the best photos come at the most unexpected times. Each photographer has their own style and sees the world through their own eyes- the trick is to always keep your eyes open and constantly be on the lookout for hidden moments of wonder. They happen all the time- while walking, working, driving, or playing. That moment which you capture is unique, and that in itself makes it a beautiful photo.
