"The Fire Lake" |
Location: S. Miguel, Azores, Portugal
An image I've taken some years ago, sitting on my hard drive , waiting for a much deserved re-process. Shot with older gear, before cameras had infinite dynamic range, when I had much less knowledge about ND grad filters. The previous published version didn't make the original scene full justice, so here is the new one.
This photo was taken in one of the islands of the magical and gorgeous Azores archipelago. I went to the S. Miguel island on a job assignment, and free time was scarce. Fortunately, me and a group of friends managed to arrange a 4 hour car travel through the island, and what a feast for the eyes that trip was! This is, in my opinion, along with S. Jorge, the most beautiful island in Azores. Breathtaking landscapes around every corner and, if it weren't for my passion for Iceland, I would return there very soon!
The depicted lake is located on the top of a volcanic mountain, and it's called Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lake). It's the 2nd largest lake of the island, and it's located 575 metres high.
