Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while on summer vacation in France. The photo shows the shadow of two people on the Avignon bridge.

Time

With the sun in my back at about 3 PM, you see the shadows of two people who are having a great time.

Lighting

The bridge, or better the remainders of the bridge, runs east to west. So, in the afternoon, the sun is shining perpendicular to that direction and sets a shadow of the people on the bridge. Then, I took the opportunity to press the release button.

Equipment

I shot this photo on an Olympus E-PL6. Zuiko 14-42 mm, 27 mm; f/5.6, 1/125.

Inspiration

The trick is to carry your camera whenever you can. A light camera surely helps. So, when you see something that's worth a photo, shoot. When in doubt, shoot.

Editing

The most important part of post-processing is the cut because the cut makes the composition. Then, you can make the choice of keeping and improve the colors or make your photo B&W. On your screen, you can fine tune the contrast, brightness, and other stuff. If you like the post-processing of this photo, you can try Darktable. Darktable is free.

In my camera bag

Traveling light is my favorite thing. When I hit the road, I bring my camera and only one or two lenses. This time I also brought a polarization filter because the weather was so nice and sunny.

Feedback

For shadows, it's always important that you know from which quarter the sun shines. However, most important is to bring your camera, have fun, and shoot.
