Location
This photo was taken inside my client's home in the nursery. The baby was lying on a bench with the window behind her near the top of her head.Time
It was about 10:00 AM.Lighting
I am primarily an outdoor, natural light photographer but this client was insistent on doing the photos indoors. I went to her house about a week before the shoot to check out the light and to be sure we had plenty of space. The room had one small window which was ample light since it faced southeast.Equipment
Nikon D810. This was taken with a 50mm 1.8 Nikkor. I had a reflector in the room on a tripod but I didn't get to use it much as the room was pretty full with family.Inspiration
I had been shooting for about an hour and a half a this point and the baby was hungry. The mom laid the baby on the bench to get ready to nurse her and when she did, she placed her hand on the baby. I jumped in to grab a few quick shots and the baby smiled. perfect!Editing
I use mostly Lightroom for post processing and then flip to Photoshop if any big edits are needed. In this case, the baby had some significant red blotching on her tummy (you can still see it just a bit) which needed to just be smoothed out in PS.In my camera bag
My old Nikon D3200 (in case and assistant or one of my kids wants to shoot with me) an 85mm 1.8 (my fave because of the bokeh) a 50mm 1.8 and a 16-35 for use in small spaces where I need a wide shot.Feedback
I take lots of time with my clients getting them to relax in family and lifestyle sessions and to just "be themselves". Sometimes I have them all so something silly just to make them giggle and I talk to them a lot and touch them frequently when I'm shooting. I try to take pictures of EVERYTHING they do so that I can catch that perfect shot that no one was expecting.
