I've taken this photo in my own daylight studio. We've been moved last year to a detached house with a seperate small stable in the garden, the last owners of this house already made it to an office.. and now it's my daylightstudio! My studio is based in the Netherlands in a small village named Breugel.Time
This picture is taken in the morning round 10 o'clock in the winter, the light is nice en soft at that hour.Lighting
My project was to take pictures of little girls, round 4/5 years old wearing their mommy's weddingdresses. The light had to be soft en nice. I'm a big fan of windowlight.. I wanted her to look outside just being who she is with a soft slight of light over her face en a nice darkness of the shadow on her sight. She was a little bit nervous and that made her facial expression perfectly fit for this sort of light. NATURAL LIGHTEquipment
My camera, Canon 6D with a Canon Lens, 85mm F 1.8 and further just playing with the light being there.Inspiration
I've got a lot of ideas in my head. I have a daughter of 5 and she Always likes to dress up like a princess. I imagined her in my weddingdress and thought that was a perfect thing for more girls and mothers, so I did the project with 5 girls.Editing
I used Photoshop cc to edit this picture. First I had to flip the photo, because the viewing direction would be more perfect! Than I made her eyes a little bit more sharp with a layer en than sharpen the eyes. And then I made it black and white, with the gradiënt tool and after that I played with the curves. In my camera bag
I only use prime-lenses, I love them. They give me more satisfaction at sharpness and bokeh. I have my canon 6D and 3 lenses: canon 85mm F1.8 (perfect portraitlens voor indoor photo's), Canon 100mm F 2.8 Macro (Perfect for outside and with a very nice bokeh and I also use this one for my fascination for bugs) and my latest lens is the Sigma Art 35mm F.1.4. This last lens (the Sigma) I really Love.. What a quality!! Perfect for lifestyle and day in a life shoots!Feedback
Surch for the light! I did a study in Natural Light. Never use flashes. The light just being there can be so nice. And make a plan first! What do you want to accomplish, what do you need for that. In my case I wanted a Portrait, so I decided to take my 85mm lens for indoor. The girl in weddingdress of her mommy, I hired a hairdresser who did the hair and make up of the little girl, so that everything was perfect. I thought of what sort of light I wanted en thought this picture would need, so I knew I had to put the girl next to a window.
