This is still one of my most memorable portraits. We were walking around the Public Art Playground in Beverly Hills and the lighting was absolutely beautiful. There are a number of trees that help soften the light and cast colorful tones of green and yellow. This photo was taken on November 21, 2015 at 3:30 in the afternoon.Lighting
When I'm out shooting on location, I do my best to let the natural light illuminate my subject.There is always something special when the lighting is manipulated. I typically try and shoot later in the evening, but this park was well covered from the direct sunlight and the trees created a brilliant glow. The light is always better in Beverly Hills. For this particular shot all I used was my trusty Canon 70D with a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art lens. By far my favorite lens that I own!Inspiration
There has always been something exciting about people and capturing the essence of an individual. A photo tells us a story and it's our job as photographers to be able to capture that emotion in a single frame. Every person is unique and I want to dedicate my time to understand who this person is and what makes them who they are. This is what makes photography so exciting to me and inspires me to continue shooting. It is never the same and there are billions of stories to tell. I'm just here to enjoy the journey.Editing
Yes. I start off in Lightroom to slightly adjust the colors and contrast of the image. Once I'm satisfied with how it looks, I take it into Photoshop to make any final touches. I typically remove any minor blemishes, but I also do my best to stay true to the original image. I stay away from any kind of manipulation when it comes to people, because everyone is beautiful in there own way and I don't want to distort that.In my camera bag
I normally keep it to the basics. I have my camera backpack by Evecase which I absolutely love! I'm able to carry my Canon 70D with the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens. My Canon battery grip with extra batteries. I also have a Canon 85mm f/1.8 as well as a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 (for spontaneous landscape shots). I also carry two Yongnuo YN560-IV Speedlites just in case, as well as a Manfrotto Compact Action Aluminum Tripod.Feedback
I believe the most important thing is to enjoy the time that you have shooting. Don't put too much pressure on it because you will be able to see and feel the tension. Have fun and make sure to get to know the model! The best images come when they feel comfortable and can be themselves. As a photographer we have to be personable and adaptable. Each person is unique and it makes all the difference when you can invest and get to know who you're working with. Other than that, I would say to take your time to understand and compose your frame. Don't fall into the trap of taking more shots with the hopes of at least one being successful. It will save you time and stress in the future.
