Location
This photograph was taken at a place I spend time with my friends when visiting. It has been taken close to the beginning of my photographic journey.Time
It has been taken on a calm, warm evening, around 9pm, when my friend and I decided to go for a walk. Luckily just before I left the house, I grabbed my tripod and camera which enabled me to capture this scene.Lighting
The nature has treated me during this exposure. Even with the lack of natural lighting, the calmness of water assured great, still reflections of the artificial lights down by the marina.Equipment
This was shot on my first and only DSLR to date, a Nikon d3100 and the standard 18-55mm kit lens. Also a tripod was necessary for this shot as the amount of light wouldn't allow me to handhold the camera during that exposure time, which also allowed me to capture the calmness of the river.Inspiration
The inspiration for this photo was the place and time itself. The calmness of the surrounding area encouraged me to think creatively in order to create a photograph that would represent the moment it was taken in.Editing
The post-processing was done in Adobe Camera RAW. The photograph didn't require multiple exposures or anything like that, it was just simple contrast and light changes and a conversion to black and white. In my camera bag
The main thing that is always in my bag is the equipment I photographed this image with. The Nikon d3100 with the kit lens and a portable tripod. A flash never leaves my bag, although is not used often as I prefer natural lighting when on location. Spare memory cards, a 50mm and a 70-300 are also the key equipment. This stuff is not top-shelf, although its more than enough to create photographs, a pinhole camera would be enough for me.Feedback
The best advice I can give is to enjoy and be inspired by the thing you're photographing and the surrounding environment. Once you enjoy it, your brain will automatically do everything to capture it in the best way possible and you won't even have to try. If it's something you're not passionate about, it will not have much meaning to you and you won't like the moment captured.
