Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on Bournemouth Beach, I live and study in Bournemouth and its timeless beauty on the coast inspires me.

Time

I remember I was walking from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe pier one hot day, it was around midday when I came across these boats nearing Boscombe.

Lighting

Although it was bright and hot, the clouds were creeping in overhead making it seem much later in the day as the sun was shut out.

Equipment

This photo was actually shot on my little Samsung camera, nothing special but its all I had on me at the time. I just had to take a picture of the two mysterious boats, no matter what with.

Inspiration

Bournemouth Beach is known for its tourist culture, the summers beaming with people on holiday or from villages and towns near by. When I stumbled across these boats on such a crowded day, I thought them unsual, out of place in the scenery around me. They almost tried to belong there, but it was obvious they didnt. They inspired me with their mystery, who did they belong to? Why were they here of all places? Surely they belong in a dockyard, a port, a harbour? Or a fishing town further into Dorset or Cornwall? Who knows?!

Editing

I am not huge on over-past-processing photographs of objects such as these, so my only processing possessed of changing the colour balance in the picture, to create what I felt a more mysterious feeling when looking at the photo.

In my camera bag

I will usually bring my small every day Samsung camera with me, its fairly good at taking reasonable photos when Im out and about. If Im going out with he specific reason of taking photographs, I may take a more heavy duty camera! My partner and I share a trusty Canon. Not too high-tech, we are both amatuers and are only so far stepping foot into the photography world. We usually have our GoPro with us, which is great for any underwater or near water shots.

Feedback

My advice would be to look for the most perculier or mysterious subject, focus on this and ask yourself questions on it that you couldnt possibly answer yourself, it makes for an interesting perspective on the photograph you have or are taking. If you dont focus on the weird and wonderful, try focusing on the shapes, patterns, symmetry, colours, the way it sits there on whatever surface. Or even if its in a pair, multiple or right in the centre of your lens. Having something to focus this sort object on, makes it more inspiring and interesting. Yes its a boat, but what do you SEE?
