Location
This photo was taken in our back yard. The family of owls had returned from the previous year and this little one allowed be to get within five feet to take the picture.Time
This is one of my favorite images! This was taken right before dusk when the owls would begin to fly around looking for food.Lighting
It was still light enough outside and the dusk to dawn light was coming on so I found I did not need to use the flash on my Canon.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Canon EOS Rebel T2i, aperture 56/10, shutter speed 1/13, focal length 171/1 and IOS 3200.Inspiration
I was looking to capture shots of the family of owls that had returned to nest in the tree line at the back of the property. I was amazed at how close they allowed me to get to them to take pictures. When he kept flying down lower in the tree and sitting there, I couldn't help but turn my focus towards it and was lucky to capture my favorite shot of all. They are beautiful birds.Editing
No, I did not do an post-processing to this shot.In my camera bag
As an amateur photography currently I carry my Canon EOS Rebel T2i, a Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens and a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom lens.Feedback
If you are trying to capture a shot similar to this one, it will take lots of patience and possibly a larger lens for when they are higher up in the tree. I was lucky enough to be able to get as close as I did to it, but usually they take flight as you get close to them (unless they are out of reach in a tree). I would suggest using lighting other than the flash on your camera. If a flash is used to many time with one looking at you, it can do damage to their night vision.
