Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the San Diego Zoo. My Fiancé and I had flown down for comic-con and while there we had set it upon ourselves to take in the sights.

Time

It was late afternoon. I will never forget this day. Me and my Fiancé as I previously mentioned had set it upon ourselves to take in San Diego's sights. In furtherance of this we had run all over town from Legoland to the U.S.S. Midway, to Balboa Park and on. The end of our journey though had to be at the Zoo. It is one of those must see things and because of it's centennial celebration it was open later making it the perfect end to a great day.

Lighting

You know I could probably make something up about how I spent an hour waiting for the light to be just right. How I scaled the enclosure to get a perfect angle. These things however would be false and I would feel wrong for telling such lies. In truth it was just plain old serendipity that brought me there at that time to give me that beautiful lighting.

Equipment

My lovely first DSLR a Nikon D5300 camera with my 18-55mm VR II lens, and my trusty steady hands. Well actually I do not trust my hands they are not steady at all, but they served me well here.

Inspiration

I love polar bears. Being from Canada I feel a certain kinship with these survivors of the white north. So when I found out they had them at the Zoo I knew had to take as many pictures of them as possible. Seriously I have at least 50 more photos of this guy on my hard drive. This was just my absolute favourite one.

Editing

Not really. I am new to the world of photography, but I have already cultivated certain beliefs. The chief amongst them being as a photographer it is up to me and my camera to capture that beautiful moment in time. Not me, my camera, and my computer. The effects you see are from a filter applied by my camera. I only resized this piece it's original format as I am sure you can imagine was quite large.

In my camera bag

As I said earlier I am new to the world of photography. I have hopes one day to amass a great collection of lens and the equipment necessary for night photography. At the moment however all I have is my Nikon D5300, the 18-55mm VR II lens, and a spare SD card for when I go wild.

Feedback

This is one of those things in life you can mimic me but what would be the point? As I said I am new to the world photography, but I have already developed some strong beliefs. It is my second most dearly held belief that photography is an art. You can mimic me but you shouldn't you should go out there and be in the moment. Find those moments that call to you and grab as many pictures of it as you can. Also as an extension of thay always have a camera with you. You would not believe the amount of times I have already had wishing I had my camera on me.
