Behind The Lens

Location

I had just purchased my first digital SLR after using my bridge camera for a few years with a spider in the lense. (Its a mystery, but I did get a close up of a spider once) I decided to venture out on a beautiful spring day to Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire

Time

It was approaching mid day, on the first warm day of the year.

Lighting

I wanted the colours of the feathers to glimmer in the bright sunshine

Equipment

I used my brand new Nikon D3300 with the standard Nikkor 55-200mm lense

Inspiration

I enjoy taking photos of nature and the subject ticked all of the boxes. A stunning bird. I decided to try for a different angle/view from the normal Peacock photos. I liked the different textures and the contrast between the different feathers and the blades of grass

Editing

I am very purist at the moment. The shot was unedited, but I am now looking at how photography can be used as an art firm as that is usually the difference between a great shot to an out of this world piece

In my camera bag

Nikon d3300, 18-55 mm lense, 55-200mm lense and a Galaxy S5 for its simplicity

Feedback

Look at the colours, framing the shot and an unusual angle which will grab attention. Everyone can take photos, try and put your own stamp on it to stand out
