Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the bottom of The Black Canyon, In Gunnison National Park, Colorado

Time

This was about an hour after sunrise, maybe 7:30 AM. It was so peaceful and quite.

Lighting

I wanted this image to reflect what it felt like to be there. Peaceful, calm, and quiet. The sunlight that managed to reach the bottom of the canyon created a beautiful soft light.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D7100 with my 35mm.

Inspiration

This inspiration behind taking this photo was to have a calming peace of art I could hang in my house. After a long day I can come home and see this image, blown up on my living room wall, and remember how peaceful and beautiful it was. It takes the stress off the day!

Editing

My goal in editing this photo was to make it look as close as possible to how it looked in person. I shot in raw, and boosted the green in this photo to closely resemble how fresh the foliage looked. I also clarified the reflection in the water to make it as vivid as I remember it being in person.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Nikon D7100 with my trust 35mm lens and 85mm lens.

Feedback

Time of day is key to landscape photography. The feel you want your photo to have will determine the time of day you shoot. I wanted a photo that would help me and others relax when looked at. At sunrise (or just after sunrise) things are quite, still, and peaceful. The light is soft and there are normally less people around. The water is general still and reflects much better. All of these together make a a beautiful photograph that communicated the peace and quite you can find in nature.
