This photo was taken at my home in the Houston, Texas area.Time
This image was taken in the early evening around 6:00 pm on a Summer day.Lighting
I stumbled upon the perfect scene this day. My son was very seriously shaving his cheeks and asked for a mirror. When I noticed the gorgeous lighting and how beautify it caused his tanned skin to glow I grabbed my camera off the nearby dresser and captured a few shots before he noticed. The mirror reflected light from the window to create a glow of innocence quite naturally.Equipment
Cannon PowerShot SX50 HS with out any filters or accessories.Inspiration
Children are constantly working so hard to grow up and imitate their guardians. When we become adults idealize our childhood innocence. This moment was important to me as it captured a young child working diligently to become like his father.Editing
The lighting was perfectly captured in this scene. I grew up using film and only recently came back to my love of photography. I am just beginning to learn how to use digital processing equipment but it is mainly trial and error as far as that is concerned. for this image I had to sharpen the area around the child's face. I also adjusted color filters to reflect the natural brown and gold colors in his skin.In my camera bag
Camera, zoom filters, lighting filters, extra batteries, external flash, wireless remote, cleaning supplies.Feedback
My strategy is to always have my camera nearby. I frequently photograph my children and it is the candid shots I always appreciate more. It is difficult to replicate a look of determination, curiosity or mischief in a child's eyes. I also take many shots of a scene or situation back to back. It is not rare for me to have 30+ shots that look almost identical to other people...but there is always something different that changes the mood or understanding of the story in each one. I spend time analyzing each photo to decide which are superior to others and then spend time reviewing my favorite shots.
