Location
This photograph was taken in Staten Island at the Postcards September 11th memorial.Time
I was in the area with a friend and started heading to the memorial around sunset. I knew there was a view of the New York City skyline. A lightning storm had just begun and I was hoping to catch some in my photos.Lighting
The lighting in the picture was provided by the monument's lights and the lightning certainly didn't hurt the picture in any way.Equipment
The photo was shot with a Canon 60D, I saw the lightning and started shooting before I could get out my tripod.Inspiration
I had been wanting to shoot some nice storm shots, but had been waiting for the right location and timing to get one with a good composition. The timing worked out perfectly in this instance.Editing
For this shot I did minimal editing, just brought out the colors. In my camera bag
I normally carry an external Flash, macro lens, a telephoto lens and a 24-70mm lens along with a Canon 60D, though I'm about to upgrade (long overdue). I also bring a tripod when the situation calls for it.Feedback
The best way to shoot a photo like this one is being in the right place at the right time. Living close to an appealing or interesting location, and checking the weather reports to know when to go out and shoot.
