Location
This photo was taken from my living room looking out into my front yard. The American Goldfinch landed on the flowers just outside the window for only a few moments. I had to be very quick to get the shot without making a lot of sudden movements that would scare the little bird away.Time
It was mid-morning, almost 10:00 am on July 8, 2016. I had been playing with my new camera taking pictures of my son and cats when the little bird flew into my overgrown garden. I was very lucky to be in the right place at the right time!Lighting
This photo was taken with all natural lighting. If I remember correctly, it was an overcast day with just a hint of sun breaking through the clouds.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3300 camera with a Sigma 70-300 mm F4-5.6 DG lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I loved the yellow of the bird against the green of the background. It was like he posed for me, watching me though the window. He stayed just long enough for the single photo then flew away. How could I not take the opportunity?Editing
I did very little processing to this photo. All it needed at a bit of brightening and a very small adjustment in contrast. In my camera bag
I have a very small, basic bag. All I have at the moment is my Nikon D3300 camera, the kit Nikkor 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED II lens and my Sigma 70-300 mm F4-5.6 DG lens that I took this photo with. It may not be much, but I sure am having fun with it!Feedback
Bird photography can be a lot of fun. I find that keeping the camera close at hand helps to capture the brief opportunities that present themselves.
