Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the pier, right next to the famous Merlion statue in Singapore. I lived in Singapore as a child so I was thrilled to photograph such an iconic scene.

Time

This was taken at the end of a very adventurous day on April 5th, 2016.

Lighting

I had tried a few pictures on my camera that I couldn't get to work the way I wanted before the battery, so I resorted to my phone which, ironically, took a better picture.

Equipment

I used my iPhone 6s to get this shot.

Inspiration

I grew up in Singapore, so I wanted to get a photo that captured multiple landmarks in one scene.

Editing

I had to adjust the brightness because the photo was little dark, but other than that, nothing much was done to the photo.

In my camera bag

I usually carry my Canon Rebel EOS T3 with an 18 - 55mm lens and a 70 - 300mm lens along with an extra battery. However, when I don't feel like carrying around my camera bag, I have my camera around my neck and my iPhone 6s in my pocket.

Feedback

Singapore is full of diversity, so it won't be hard to capture what you're looking for. For a photo like this, it's about timing so that everything you want is in one picture and there are no tourists in the way. Singapore is a perfect place to document multiple cultures.
