The time of year is crucial, as is whether or not water is flowing from the waterfall. For only a few days a year, and only if water is present, are photographs like this possible.Equipment
Nikon D3200, tripod.Inspiration
After burying my father in Reno, Nevada, I read something very special was happening at Yosemite. We decided that before returning home to San Diego, we had to see it. Tioga pass was closed, so the long-way-round through rolling green hills, was long, but quite beautiful. I am so glad we went, the water droplets mixing with the sun's rays was something I will never forget. It was an unforgettable end to a very difficult trip.Editing

It must be late in February, there must be water flowing from Horsetail fall. and there cannot be cloud cover or rain. Best to check in with one of the social media sites or a hotel in the valley to verify water is present. You must be on the valley floor, at Yosemite well before sunset, as there could be hundreds of people vying for just the right spot along the river. Take snacks, limit drinks, restroom is a hike away. Bring chairs, a blanket, and layer your clothing. It can get very cold, very fast.
