Location
In a bay off the Mississippi River in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.Time
Every evening I watch the sky and see if there is going to be a great sunset, then I rush over to a place I think will be the best for the sunset that night.Lighting
I didn't have many professional equipment yet, actually this was one of my very first photos ever! All I did was take the picture at the right moment.Equipment
The only thing I had at the time was a simple Coolpix S560, which at the time was a moderately good camera considering this was taken in 2013 and 4K wasn't really a thing yet.Inspiration
My mom had only had her professional camera for about a week or two. She would go out and take so many photos here and one day I went with her and got the perfect photo at the right time.Editing
I used Photoshop only to soften up a couple rough edges and change the contrast the slightest bit.In my camera bag
Well back when I took this photo, I didn't have much in my bag. Just my camera and a mini tripod! But now I have a Canon, about 3 lenses, and all of the essentials. I also bring my GoPro to a lot of places I go to. I use it for giving people a first person view of my adventures and every once in awhile, a quick shot when I don't have my main camera. Now that I've discovered light painting, sometimes I also bring a flashlight.Feedback
Sometimes you don't need all of the fancy equipment to capture life's perfect moments. As you saw I didn't need much to take this amazing photo, but if you have access to great equipment, good timing, and can capture even better photos than this one, do it.
