Location
Taken at our home in Auckland, New Zealand, this is Kenny my husband's Affenpischer, we adopted him as an adult as a rescue dog from a puppy mill. He adores attention and especially having his photo taken - he sits so still for face shots.Time
This photo was taken on a beautiful sunny day with the sun streaming into our apartment around mid-day.Lighting
No flash was used, it was all used with the natural light coming in through the glass.Equipment
My Canon EOS 60D Aperture: 4/1 ISO: 1250 Shutter Speed: 1/125 Focal Length: 70/1Inspiration
The inspiration for this photo was the contrast of the black/grey hairs of Kenny with his naturally bedraggled look of his fringe, ears and beard.Editing
The only post-processing I did was cropping the image. In my camera bag
A two lenses (EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM) and my # 1 favourite my macro lens, a compass to understand the sun and I always carry tripod which has one leg which detaches to use as a mono-pod - extremely versatile.Feedback
What I've learnt is that it can take 100 shots to get the right image and with cropping even a "not so good" shot can give great results; taking the shots are only the start, it's the reviewing of the photos afterwards that is ever so rewarding. When taking photos I look at what is in the background so not to distract from the image, what do the colour contrasts look like. Having only purchased my 2nd hand camera in 2015 I've found that the more photos I take, the more I understand about what does and doesn't look good - in the beginning I began to wonder why I didn't stick with my iPhone but now, my Canon is my favourite accessory. I also regularly talk with the staff at the store I bought the camera from to discuss different ideas, trends and "what's new."
