I took this photo after a very rainy day in Taizé, France. We had been hiking all day, and it started to rain. Not 'just' rain, no, loads and loads of rain. We waited underneath a small shelter with our group, and two hours later the rain finally stopped. The clouds were clearing and we could actually see the glow of the setting sun. It was warm, beautiful and relieving at the same time.Time
I remember looking at my watch and thinking: 'We are so late for our evening-meeting at the local church'. At around 8pm, the rain stopped and we could feel the warmth through our wet and cold clothes. This picture tells that story for me, which is why it is one of my favorites!Lighting
I used a flash to light the subject from the side because I didn't wanted to see just the silhouette, that wouldn't have told the whole story for me. I used the flash so you can actually see the detail in the shirt and notice how wet it is.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D5300, with a 18-55 VRII Lens. It was shot handheld with a Nikon SB600 off-camera flash on a tripod to light the subject from the side.Inspiration
The colors of the sky were so amazing, who doesn't take a photo during a moment like this? ;)Editing
Because I shot the picture in raw I could actually get the same exposure on the sky as I got on the trees and the field using lightroom. I used a vignette to draw the attention to the center of the image and I made the color of the grass a little bit more yellow, so it would stand out. The image was shot at 18mm. I used lightrooms build-in crop feature to get the panoramic look. Thanks to the 24 megapixels and the raw-file, it was actually not devastating for the quality. In my camera bag
The Nikon D5300 is for a beginner like me a perfect choice. Lightweight, good battery-life and cheap lenses for every occasion. I take my 50mm f1.4 with me for portraits, detail shots and street photography. The 18-55VRII is one of my favorites for landscapes and groups. For the bokeh-shots and wildlife I use the 70-300. ND Filters are always present in my bag, I just love making those long exposure shots...Feedback
Wait for those perfect moments! Sometimes you just get the right shot straight-away, like I did here. Most of the times though, I wait until golden hour because I love that warm feel. That is purely based on my taste, but for me that is the perfect moment!
