Behind The Lens

Location

We took this photo up on a hill in south andalusia in Spain. For a good new motif we travel the World, to inhale nature, to discover new places and come down, to ground our minds. This is why we search our motifs and recteational time in remote and lonely regions

Time

In such regions like spain there is much sunlight during the day and that includes hard shadows.Therefor we avoid photographing during that time. Always better is the early morning sunset or better before sunrise. Or an hour before sunrise, the blue hour and after that, the golden hour. These are the perfect partners in landscape photography. We traveled in 12 european countries so far and our goal is to travel the World and producing extraordinary photobooks. Nature is our Mainspring!

Lighting

Andalusia means Country of Light, and that says everything for photographers who are planning their Andalusia Phototrip. Great distant views, tall mountains, deserts and green forests, and the best: Almost everyday spectacular lighting, especially shortly before and after the sun has set. It seems that the sunlight is much more softer and colorful in Andalusia.

Equipment

We use Sony mirrorless camera (A7S), the SEL1018 lens from Sony, at 12mm this lens covers the whole 35mm sensor! A perfect wideangle for landscapes and nature photography.

Inspiration

Our trip through Andalusia itself was planned as a phototrip, the whole way through, this is one stunning sundown image over the mountains of the andalusian countryside. We drove 2000km in 10 days and climbed on mountains and walked felt a hundred miles, to get this image in the evening hours around 9pm. The beautiful colored skyline behind the mountains and the rays of the sunlight beamed me up directly into photo heaven.

Editing

I've made just a few small steps in Lightroom and later used some features of the NIK Collection to male this image complete.

In my camera bag

Because we are photographing land-and seascapes, nature and architecture, we use the Sony A7S with the SEL1018, Sometimes the 24mm Tilt-Shift and an old Zeiss Lens 35mm to 135mm, f3,3. A Manfrotto tripod, a cable release for the camera (and also Triggertrap) Sometimes we use LEE Filter for long exposures and also have a second camera in the bag, a Sony Alpha6000 with 28mm, f2, because we are 2 photographers;)

Feedback

For photographers Andalusia is a very changing country to be. In the spring you can take photos of the Flora & Fauna, in the summertime, spectacular Landscapes with golden sunlight on the mountains, Seascapes with the sunken sun behind the horizon, stunning homes and cultural locations like the white arabic towns, the Alhambra and much much more. The trick fir every landscape photogrpaher is to know his gear and have much patience to wander around to find the perfect motif, to sit and wait for the right weather our cloud formation! The best gear to have is the gear you have with you. To be at the right place at the right time. You have to be spontaneous and patient always know you gear too;)
