This photo was taken from my front porch. I used to be an avid hiker but due to illness have been unable to walk as much as I used to and missed being close to nature. My dad got me a new camera for my birthday and I took up the hobby, initially feeling sad that I couldn't go deep into the forest and up and down ravines like I used to, but I have found that the camera causes me to notice the beauty within reach, and there is much to see! This little chipmunk was visiting my bird feeder on this day and had his little cheeks stuffed as full as possible.Time
This was taken midday. I often check the feeder throughout the day to see who is snacking and was pleasantly surprised to see this non-avian stopping by even though I'm sure the birds did not appreciate the competition.Lighting
I wish I could say this lovely lighting was planned on my part, but I had just gotten my first camera that was more than a point and shoot and was still learning to use it. Honestly, I just got lucky and am grateful!Equipment
I took this with the Canon SX50 HS. I used a UV filter, nothing fancy. No time to set up a tripod, I just focused and snapped. I am so new at photography and this was the first week with my new camera so I had much to learn at that point.Inspiration
Anything and everything in nature inspires me. Every time I capture an image of wildlife, a perfect sunset, a wide, still lake - - anything outside - - I feel so blessed, so fortunate to have been there for that moment and to always have a picture so I can remember.Editing
As stated above, I am still learning so I do very little post-processing. I adjust color levels, brightness and contrast and am learning more techniques. I really enjoy nature photography and landscapes that aren't too processed though. I want to see as closely as possible, what the photographer saw when he or she took the photo so I can feel like I am there. I hope I can keep my photos as natural looking as I am able while still making sure they are eye-catching.In my camera bag
For now, I have my Canon SX50 HS, a few different filters, and a miniature and standard tripod. That's about it.Feedback
Although, this was a beginner's luck shot, I am so thrilled to be learning the technical aspects of photography and I would advise anyone to learn, learn, learn as much and as fast as possible. And practice everything you learn over and over. Learning the very basics about shutter and aperture, white balance - - those things can turn a so-so shot into an amazing shot. Every new skill I learn leads me to better and better photos.
