Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on one of my day trips around the Netherlands. The shot has been taken in The Hague's center.

Time

I like to take spontaneous shots. Usually I try to take my camera with me all the time, so when something good appears in front of my eyes I will be able to capture it. I remember I was walking down the street towards some shop and I looked at the sky and I saw those beautiful buildings standing tall and extremely blue sky. I know that there are few clouds on the picture, but for the Netherlands this is called good sunny weather, unfortunately it never lasts for long. I remember that the picture was taken around 4 pm and it was really beautiful day.

Lighting

I wanted the image to look very vibrant and sharp, thankfully the sun did all the work for the lighting of that photo.

Equipment

For this photo I used Nikon D5200, with a 18-55 mm lens and a tripod.

Inspiration

I have always been amazed by architecture in general. I love how old buildings can transport you back in time but I also like how modern buildings bring such symmetry and sense simplicity, and I think simple things are beautiful.

Editing

I remember that the raw image was very beautiful and vibrant, the things I have done is to individually saturate the colors in the sky from the buildings and correct the white balance as well as increase the contrast.

In my camera bag

Usually I carry around my Nikon D5200, few lens filters, two remotes, one with cable and one without, believe me both go into good usage, the cable one is extremely good for multiple quick shots. I also carry Nikon lens 18-55 mm and a Tamron lens 70 - 300 mm.

Feedback

For the picture hasn't been used any flash. It was taken at 18 mm focal length, with 320 ISO and the exposure is 1/1000. You will also need a tripod a very good position, for example from the place I took the photo is completely pedestrian area, so no cars you need to be alert for. Make sure to bring a remote it just makes life so much easier, and photos always sharp and crisp.
