Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my grandparents house in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Time

This was around 5 p.m. or so. We had just made it in from a 17 hour road trip from Arkansas the night before and it was a gorgeous 78 degrees that evening so we spent most of the evening outside.

Lighting

The sunsets up there are beautiful. They light just happened to be shining between two giant pine trees across from their house, and it hit his face just perfectly to bring out his eye color and highlight his cheeks.

Equipment

I used my Samsung Galaxy S7. It has a photography setting on the phone, and I had been messing with the settings that day.

Inspiration

The lighting was beautiful, along with the weather that day. Also, this is the house that I spent a lot of my childhood at, and even though he's a little too young to remember it, I know that I'll always have this memory of him playing in the same grass I did.

Editing

No post-processing. I usually don't retouch my photos from my phone, just because it shows the realness and raw composition as I see it before I take the picture.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a Nixon D3000 with me on trips, but this trip was different since it was an impromptu visit.

Feedback

Capturing the innocence of a baby is probably one of the easiest things. You don't have to have a fancy expensive camera, or a ton of equipment to haul around. Sometimes to capture the moments, all you need is a phone like this. Live life in the moment, but don't forget to capture the memories.
