Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on a countryside road in Tuscany. I was planning to shoot that photo on a lake's shore but after walking for almost 1 hour through a wood at around midnight me and my model (my niece) we were too scared to continue the walk alone... So we turned back and shoot this near my car in a more quiet and comfy place.

Time

It was around 1.00 am in the morning. I was in late to catch the galactic core of the Millyway, it was alteady gone under the horizon but a glimpse of the white starry stripe was still visible.

Lighting

There is no lighting work on this photo, just the moon and the lamp. That place was so dark but I managed to add a bit of luminosity in post processing.

Equipment

NikonD700, Samyang 14mm f/2.8, Benro Tripod A550FN1

Inspiration

I'm a night photographer and a believer of life after dead... I believe that the stars are the eyes of our ancestors looking down on earth. In my night photographs I always add a touch of mistery adding some elements who remind of this idea. In this photo you can see a fallen angel who look up at the sky in searching for some help to come back in Heaven.

Editing

This is one exposure only. I post processed the RAW file on Lightroom for luminosity and colors and then retouched the girl's figure on Photoshop.

In my camera bag

Camera body: Nikon D700 Lenses: Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 Nikkor AF-S 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 Nikkor AF 60mm f/2.8 D Micro Filters: Samyang SFH-14 Filter Holder Cokin 154 ND8 Neutral Density Filter Tripod: Benro A550FN1 That's all I have!

Feedback

If you shot at night be prepared for the worst: I was planning one week ahead to do this in a very nice location but it was impossible to reach that place, and I was lost and very upset. So I shot the photo in a very common countryside road and it turned out very cool: this photo was selected to be part of an international art gallery in New York. Fantasy is the key of success. Everything is possible.
