Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Skirball Culture Center in West Los Angeles during LA Swim Week 2016.

Time

This was taken in the evening using existing light at ISO 1200.

Lighting

This image was taken indoors using existing light at ISO 1200 at f/2.8 @ 1/500 sec. in manual mode.

Equipment

Image was taken with a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III, an f/2.8 70-200mm zoom and a Manfrotto monopod.

Inspiration

The model inspired me capture this image. She moved with such energy & grace. She also had a great expression.

Editing

I processed the raw image in Lightroom then exported the image as a TIFF file and further retouched it in Photoshop on an Mac OS X platform.

In my camera bag

I always pack my Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III, f/2.8 24-70mm, f/2.8 70-200mm zoom, Canon 600 EX-RT Speedlite flash and my trusty Minolta IV F light meter.

Feedback

For any photographer wanting to capture similar images, my advice is use the best camera you can afford. That being said, use your camera in auto focus and or track focus if avaliable and servo mode. Also use the fastest lenses possible. I recommend using a f/1.8 or faster. I also strongly recommend shooting in RAW mode and using an incident ambient light meter. I personally love my Minolta IV F light meter. But to get the best images possible, shoot a lot & shoot often.
