Behind The Lens
Location
This image was taken while I was out looking for wildlife at a local lake. I am also drawn to beautiful flowers pretty backlit images and I thought this purple flower grouping was a lovely subject.Time
It was early afternoon on a very bright sunny and quite warm day. I was looking for interesting shady as well as dappled light so I could shoot a subject that was more backlit with some warm bright light behind.Lighting
The sun was high and strong that day but I found this pocket of shade with some filtered backlight behind this flower grouping. I thought that the warmer light that was behind the flowers would make them stand out against the orange hue of the light. I purposely tried to underexpose the image a little so that I could keep the flowers more dark and saturated without making the background too bright as well.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5DMIII and a Sigma 150-600 lens since I was out shooting wildlife that day. I did not use a tripod or any off camera lighting.Inspiration
I love nature and flowers and beautiful light. I saw this grouping of flowers sitting above the lake with a non-obstructed background and I thought that the way the flower vines intertwined and the warm light behind it would make for an interesting shot. I loved how there were only 3 flowers in bloom and I wanted to capture the flower at that moment to only show those little pops of color.Editing
I did a little bit of processing to the image in Lightroom. I darkened the image a little more and added in a little more warmth to bring out the warm light which then brought out the purple of the flower. I also gave the image some more clarity to bring out the texture of the petals and vines. In my camera bag
Lately I have been carrying around my Canon 5DMIII and my long telephoto lenses which include the Sigma 150-600 and the Canon 100-400L. I also love to play with my Helios 44-4 for great sunflare and my wide angle Tokina 16-28. Normally I am out shooting wildlife and nature so I want to have my longest lens possible which is why I had my Sigma 150-600 with me this day. This lens is also fantastic for capturing flowers and still life because of the beautiful bokeh and compression you get with shooting with a long lens.Feedback
I personally love to shoot at all times of the day and shooting in full sun shouldn't scare anyone off. Look for pockets of shade where the sun is less strong and more filtered. Make sure that your subject is facing away from the sun, especially for humans, so that the direct sunlight is not hitting them in the front. Try to position yourself when using a long lens to ensure that your backgrounds are more clear and have little distractions to them and even look for pretty light and beautiful coloring to provide some beautiful colorful and bright bokeh.
