Love this image! So glad you waited for the train!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from a decommissioned bridge in rural New York State.

Time

This photo was taken early in the morning.

Lighting

Just natural lighting.

Equipment

Handheld Canon 40D with a Tamron 28-300mm lens at 50mm.

Inspiration

I was inspired by a very foggy morning and drove around looking for interesting subjects. I heard the train coming and waited for it to appear out of the thick fog. It's kind of spooky hearing a train coming without seeing it!

Editing

Pretty much straight from the camera, just resized. Usually I add contrast and saturation at minimum, but I really liked the low-contrast and grey of the original image. Less is more!

In my camera bag

Canon 40D, Tamron 28-300, Canon 10-18, Yongnuo 50, Tamron 17-50. Extra battery, polarizers and lens tissues.

Feedback

I got lucky with the train coming through. Knowing when the trains come through would be good for recreating an image like this. Then pick a good location, like an abandoned bridge, and wait for a foggy morning. And don't get hit by a train in the fog!
