Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Prescott Arizona, at the Dells (Watson Lake)

Time

It was actually high noon

Lighting

Yes, which is normally a time I don't like to shoot at and it was extremely hot that day about 109 degrees out. I had the model facing toward the sun which is normally not something I do.

Equipment

I used a Nikon 3200 as I was just starting out in photography no tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

I started out doing landscape photography but along the way I began to incorporate subjects into my landscapes, because I wanted to let the view feel the intensity of what I was seeing through my camera. I had seen some photos of a photographs on one of my many searches of a model with a beautiful flowing parachute and I just fell in love with it. So I set out to find a parachute, purchased a retired military T10 25 ft parachute online and started practicing with my friends. This was actually my second attempt at using the parachute, and I was hooked, I've done a whole series of them and continue to use them because 1. it is a very inexpensive way to make a woman feel beautiful. 2. I can recycle it and get as creative as I want. 3. never gets old.

Editing

In my post processing I use curves to bring down the highlights and increase shadows where needed. I used lightroom to cull and catalog the images I plan to edit, then import them into photoshop where the magic for me happens.... for this particular photo all I did was change the color of the parachute to and with a hue saturation layer.

In my camera bag

I use very little equipment, My Camera bag consist of my Nikon 7200, Nikon mirrorless J5 Prime 50mm 24-75 mm 75-300 mm 10-110 mm for Nikon J5 2 small Lume lights 1 speed light Carbon fiber tripod

Feedback

Yes, Location, Location, Location! LOL and make sure you have 3 to 4 ppl to help the parachute was 25 feet in diameter and with just myself and the model I would not have been able to accomplish this shot... There were 3 tall teenage boys fluffing the parachute directly behind her. ;) Most importantly.... don't be afraid to get creative....
