I tend to overexpose lighter areas of the scene when shooting (in RAW of course) and pull back the highlights in post to soften hair and blow out very small imperfections that distract from the main subject.Equipment

Standard highlight recovery, minimal contrast correction. I also add the slightest touch of blue or purple to the shadows of almost all of my images to neutralize certain red/orange hues I'm not a big fan of.In my camera bag

Shoot as much as you possibly can and don't be afraid to EXPERIMENT! As I mentioned already, I personally prefer to overexpose my images as much as possible and bring back the highlights that cause too much distraction later on when processing.
