Behind The Lens

Location

When I was out in Austria with my brother on vacation to Austria and Italy. During our hike above the clouds on the mountain Monte Baldo Italy, I just saw this very nice spot I had to take.

Time

We woke up in the morning around 08.00am, had some breakfast and went with the car to Monte Baldo. After our arrival we started climbing, that would be around 10.30am, I think. So we climbed a lot, taking a lot of pictures on our way up. A nice panorama as well. Then it started to thunder and rain. Still astonished of the beautiful view, I had to take some on our way down as well, even if my camera weren’t waterproof, it still survived. Around 03.30 pm I took this picture, between two mountains still raining very hard, I couldn't help noticing this beautiful view. Using my Canon 55-250mm, I zoomed in to 115mm, with a 1/1000sec, 400 iso and f/5. And there the moment was captured.

Lighting

The cloudy weather with a glimp of sun shining through gave really beauty on the other mountains surroundings us. As well as the moving fog on the lower parts. With behind the white snow on the mountain.

Equipment

During our trip I brought my Canon Eos 550d with a Tamron 10-24mm and canon 55-250mm and a small tripod from manfratto. Tamron for the wide angle and Canon for the close-up on other mountains. Where this photo was taken with :)

Inspiration

I really love the mountains and open spaces, it is so peaceful and quiet, you can take the time to capture moments of such beauty.

Editing

The photo got processed by adding more color and depth to it. The shot itself was very cold, but the moment very warm. After minimizing some highlights and shadow. Adding clarity, vibrance and partly saturation. Then adding some blue for the sky in saturation, and minimize a little yellow. But adding in luminance on yellow and green. with decreasing the aqua and blue a little. This picture got created, just as imagined, the moment itself I saved it in my memory.

In my camera bag

As spoken of the Canon 550d, never go out without it, as well a spare battery, the Canon ES-F 55-250mm, started in the standard kit, a Tamron 10-24mm, bought after needing to take group pictures and a Canon speedlite 430EX II, for the need of light. This together ordered in my lowepro bag. Last year I bought the Manfratto compact advanced as an lightweight for travel and need for long exposure shots.

Feedback

Shooting in the mountains can sometimes be very tricky. When thunder strikes be very careful. Have patience, even when it's raining, and then I mean a lot of drops. Sometimes the most beautiful things you see at the most unexpected moments. Most of all enjoy you're time being there and living it. Every time is different, you can experience only once 'that' moment, but can relive it every time you take a look at you're picture.
