Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was captured in Point Judith, Rhode Island

Time

This picture was captured around 7pm. Point Judith offers beautiful sunsets on any given day. This day was no exception.

Lighting

It was important for me to keep the sun and it's rays as the focal point of the image. I needed to dim the coast and the water to accomplish this goal.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D750 with a Tamron 70-200. I zoomed in to 200mm to keep all other elements along the beach from being a distraction. The lens was set to F8 to ensure sharpness across the frame.

Inspiration

Nature inspires me to take many of my photos. Too many people go about their daily lives and hectic schedules without taking the time to truly see what's around them. Photography helps me have an appreciation of what God put in front of me on a daily basis.

Editing

I commonly used a combination of DXO Optics 11 Elite to dentist and sharpen the image. Once that is complete, I transfer the image to Adobe Lightroom for the finishing touches. The ability to independently adjust local parts of an image is indispensable to a photographer.

In my camera bag

I now use a Nikon D810 for its ultra high resolution. My main "go-to" lenses are the Tamron 24-70 and 70-200 f2.8 apertures. When I am doing long exposures, I rely on the Lee filter system. A Benro Mach3 tripod with attached Manfrotto gimbal keeps the system nice and sturdy for blur free captures.

Feedback

The best advise I can give others is to keep striving to better your work. The only failure is not trying your very best. Even your worst photo is a teaching tool to see what you did wrong and learn from it.
