Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot on the first afternoon of a 6 day camp to West Alligator Head,Kakadu National Park,at a small camp spot named Jungle Camp. It is a very secluded little camp within a small monsoon rainforrest with it"s own beachfront. The gap in the mangroves in the shot is the only opening out to sea.

Time

Shot was taken at about 6.45pm and was one of a series of shots as the sun set.

Lighting

There was a smoke haze from dry season bushfires in the region. This helped with the lighting as it kinda reflected the glow throughout.

Equipment

Taken with my Nikkon D5200,Sigma 300mm lens

Inspiration

I love Kakadu dry season sunsets and am always on the lookout for that special opportunity when the conditions come together to create that unique shot.

Editing

None whatsoever-what you see is how I took the shot.

In my camera bag

My Nikkon D5200 with a choice of lenses - usually a Nikkon DX 18-55mm and a Sigma DG 70-300mm

Feedback

Patience, and lots of shots. You can often tell about 45 minutes before sunset if there is going to be any good diffusion of the light due to haze.We are lucky in that regard here as the dry season is the time to burn and revitalise the country creating many similar opportunities.
