Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the back porch of my parents home in Massachusetts early this summer. Baxter is a big part of our family and has been instrumental in helping me practice using my camera.

Time

This was taken just before the sun went down. I had gone out to the back yard with my camera and the dogs to try and capture a few pictures of a family of birds in a tree on the other side of the fence. My mom told me that the coffee was ready, I started to come inside and turned to snap a quick picture of Baxter.

Lighting

I don't use flash with animals, it can distort their eyes, and also scare them. I was incredibly lucky that it was after daylight savings and I was outside during "the golden hour"

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon Rebel Eos t5 with an 18-55mm lens. I held it all steady using the steps, my knee, and an elbow.

Inspiration

Love for a dog and love from a dog is unconditional, I just wanted to capture it.

Editing

The only thing I touched after taking this picture was editing out a little drool coming out of Baxter's mouth.

In my camera bag

I keep it simple: Camera, standard lens, zoom lens, wide angle lens, and a bottle of water.

Feedback

The best advice I got led to me taking this picture: "Capture everything. If you feel like you want to look at it forever than take a picture. You can go back and delete anything, but you can't go back and capture it."
