This vulture, about to land near the carcass of a seabird, has descended from a soaring flock that has taken to flying daily over the Necanicum Estuary along the northwest coast of Oregon. This time of year, carrion seems to be more abundant along the river deltas and ocean shores than up in the foothills where vultures normally search for food.
