Location
The photo was captured from a lift in Hakone, Japan on a foggy afternoon. We had been in the cold misty fog on a tour of what would have been a Mt. Fuji sightseeing trip. Instead of bright clouds, a beautiful must covered everything in sight.Time
I cannot place the exact time of day, but I am sure it was in the afternoon. We had already visited the town and lake in Hakone, and the lift was our last stop before returning to Tokyo.Lighting
Because of the fog, the light was very soft. No hard shadows were cast in any direction, and if there were, the mist would have covered it up. The lack of intense light also allowed for there to be no glare on the glass of the lift, which added to the vagueness if the scene.Equipment
The picture was taken with a Nikon D-5100 camera with an 15-18 mm lens. Nothing else was used.Inspiration
My photo was more of spur-of-the-moment take. I was high up off of the ground with nothing to take, and another lift magically showed up in front of me. Naturally, I had to capture the moment.Editing
Yes. I boosted the contrast a bit and faded out the color for a more desolate look.In my camera bag
Normally I carry my camera, 15-18 mm lens, mini tripod, lens remote, SD card case, lens cloth, and card reader for downloading photos to my computer.Feedback
I would advise to wait for the perfect amount of fog in an area so that it is not too thick but not incredibly dim either. Let it blanket the background so the object really stands out. And most importantly, be in the moment!
