Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Louisiana Renaissance Festival, after one of their Birds of Prey shows.

Time

I believe this was taken mid to late afternoon when the sun had gone around to the other said of the Fair grounds.

Lighting

I used the afternoon sun/shade to capture the colors of this handsome guys feathers. I love the play of light. I get lucky sometimes going back to a show 2 or 3 times to get a good shot. It's natural light and no flash.

Equipment

I know this was shot with one of my Nikon's, hand held no flash. At Fair I always use the same lens, because I'm always in heavy garb and not carrying my camera bag. I shoot with what I have. It is an Nikkor 18-200.

Inspiration

I have always loved owls and this guy was just sitting up on top of this pole saying to me "You'll never get a better chance so go ahead and shoot. I'll sit right here until you are done."

Editing

Not really. If I did it was just to tweak the brightness and the contrast a little and maybe resize it. What you see is what you get with me.

In my camera bag

Like I said above one of my two Nikon bodies and the 10-200 Nikkor lens is my main equipment.

Feedback

Patience and shoot a lot of frames from different angles if you can. I might shoot 600 photo's at a day at fair, but you are lucky if you 75 of them. I only show the best of what I shoot. I do get lucky sometimes and only have to shoot 2 or 3 of a subject to know I got it right. But, now with digital it doesn't cost anything to shoot 5 or 6 at different settings if your subject is willing to co-operate.
