Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Providence, Rhode Island. What I loved about this picture was actually the man sitting on the dock, fishing with a net. The colors stood out beautifully to me and that man on the dock, slightly in shadow, gave it some mystery.

Time

This was taken around 5 o'clock in the evening. The summer sun was just starting to lower down towards the horizon.

Lighting

Sunet.

Equipment

I used a Canon Rebel T5 with a kit 18-55 lens.

Inspiration

I love taking sky photos. I am always looking up at the sky in search for drama and color. The sky is almost always interesting at sunrise or sun set. I love when the clouds cooperate and off drama and vibrant colors.

Editing

I don't remember all of my post processing on this photo but I generally use Lightroom for all my editing. I know I used the dehaze tool and bumped up the contrast and vibrance. I lightened up the shadows and took down the highlights a bit. I don't like heavy processing and I am new to Lightroom and photoshop so I am still learning.

In my camera bag

In my camera bag I always have my Canon rebel T5, 50mm f/1.4 canon lens, 24mm f/2.8 pancake lens, 18-55mm kit lens, 70-300mm kit lens, Canon 580ex speedlight, manfroto tripod, and variable ND filter. Along with extra batteries of course :)

Feedback

Make sure theres clouds in the sky. You cant have a good sunset picture without clouds! And timing is everything. You want to have your camera set up about 30 mins before sunset because it happens fast. Once it sets, that's it.
