Location
This picture was taken right outside the front door of my country home in rural Manitoba. I'm a self taught photographer and learn as I go. I take pictures in my spare time, or when I see something creative, unique or inspiring.Time
It was mid-morning, and heading out the door to go shopping, I saw our 3 adorable kittens behind a rock right beside our door. I grabbed the camera from inside and snapped a few shots. This picture was taken on August 3, 2016 at 9:18a.m.Lighting
As it was morning and our house faces east, the sun's natural lighting was perfect for this shot, and I didn't need a flash.Equipment
I took this picture with a Nikon D3000, and a 18-55mm lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
Some kittens eyes stay blue for only a short period of time in the beginning of their lives, and I wanted to capture them before they changed color. This kitten's mother conveniently brought him and his siblings to our doorstep in time for me to get this picture of him. If you look closer at the picture, you can see this little guy's sister in the background.Editing
Not a whole lot of complexities went into this impromptu photo shoot. From shooting to lighting to processing, it was all very elementary. I like it that way.In my camera bag
My equipment consists of my Nikon D3000 camera and my 18-55mm lens - that's it. Photography is basically my hobby, and this camera works excellent for what I need!Feedback
Kittens don't generally hold still to allow you to take your time to get the right angle. Positioning them can work at times, but you have to be quick to get the shot before they reposition themselves. Take lots of pictures to ensure you get the right expressions. It's great to be able to plan ahead, but sometimes, you've just got to grab and go before you lose your opportunity!
