Location
The photo was taken in a studio of a friend in Munich.Time
It is a studio photo, so the time is not really relevant. I took it on May 16, 2015 at 1pm.Lighting
I have worked with some studio flashes. Here the light is coming from above. A bit like the sun. I love to experiment with light and shadow, because pictures with shadowy parts are always looking particularly exciting to me. There is an additional small light for the background. This is important for my work.Equipment
This was a shot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with a 24-105mm lens, 1/160 sec. and f/8,0. And two studio flashes.Inspiration
On that day we wanted to try out something different. The idea was to be a bit a reminiscent of the 50s and we tried to give the picture a bit of a pin-up style in make-up, dress and pose, but still elegant.Editing
This image is a bit of a pin-up image. Therefore, the skin must be very beautiful and flawless. So I have taken some time for the skin retouching, as always ? Then I took some time for the retouching of the eyes to help them stand out, but not too much. And then I worked with high contrast and a bit of toning to intensify the vintage style. No textures or something like that were used, because I wanted a very clean background. I finished with a soft desaturation. In my camera bag
I usually have my camera (Canon EOS 5D Mark III) in my bag, two or three lenses (the 85mm, a 100mm and a 24 - 105mm), some batteries, a cloth for the lens, a replacement battery for the camera, a number of memory cards, the transmitter for the studio flash, handkerchiefs and a lip balm :-)Feedback
It's very important to master the basics of photography. And then for me the most important thing is the model. I not tired of repeating that :-) For these kinds of images you need ideas, meaning that you have to collect ideas, maybe at Pinterest or on some other photography sites. Also it helps, like in this case, to have a super creative model that can style herself so wonderfully. Of course a creative stylist can be very helpful too. And then practice, practice, practice. Practicing with Models, practice with light, practice with photo editing. And have fun, with the light, with the stylings. Have fun with it. For me photography is a passion :-)
