Location
This photo was taken in Scotland in the fishing village of Anstruther, in the council area Fife. I love this boat and have taken it on various occasions when I have been up at Anstruther.Time
This has to be one of my most popular photos. This photo was taken in between 8 and 9PM, and obviously it was at sunset.I was originally at another location taking photos and it was a dull, horrible night (20 miles away from the Anstruther) I was shooting the dull weather, but the water was calm. When i noticed that this boat would not leave my mind. Had to head up the coast to see Reaper. Was a fantastic decision I think.Lighting
The Lighting was dull, grey and horrible, and I was actually about to leave, but decided to see what Mother Nature was bringing for sunset that night. I started to see a slight orange tinge in the horizon and I knew it was going to be spectacular.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D7000, 10 stop filter and I used the path as a tripod. I Left the tripod in the car, and I was not leaving the sunset which could last minutes to get it and come back to a fading sky.Inspiration
It has to be the calm conditions that were consistent through out Fife. I love a good calm night, as the reflections in the water are at their best. I thought even the dull sky would make a moody photo but the change in the colour of the sky beats it by a mile.Editing
Editing photos is simple for me. I only use Lightroom and the Google Nik plug in to go along with it, as I feel the Noise Reduction and Sharpening through google Nik does a better job than Lightroom. In my camera bag
For me, landscapes is my main thing. I always have my tokina 11-16 in the bag, along with my 10 stopper. The tokina brings out a totally different atmosphere in the image that I cannot put my finger on. Also (usually) I have my Manfrotto BeFree Tripod, which I got for a bargain. I also sometimes pack my 50mm 1.8 in case someone in the streets wants a portrait done.Feedback
Scotland is one of the most magical countries I know. Although this image wasn't taken in the Scottish Highlands, that is the place to go to get a good photo...you really cannot fail. You have hills, lochs, historical castles, the list goes on.
