Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while waiting for my train in Venice, Italy. Crazy to think even their train stations are beautiful!

Time

This image quality was a complete surprise to me. I woke up early, ready to start my day exploring the next location in Italy. It was around 7:00am and I was still a tried, groggy mess. However, I couldn't pass up a photo opportunity this good.

Lighting

Lighting is very important to my style of photography. I will always appreciate a high contrast image. Between the early morning sun and the panels running along the ceiling of the train station, there was little doubt in my mind that this photo would be a success.

Equipment

For this shot I used none other but my cell phone. I was backpacking and my regular camera of choice (Canon Rebel T5) was packed away tight. No special tools and no preparation.

Inspiration

On this trip my goal was to snap as many "real life" shots as possible. Nothing posed, nothing planned. My eyes were opened up to the pure, everyday beauty in even the most bustling locations.

Editing

This photo is almost completely raw. The only processing I had to do was intensify the contest. I really wanted to exaggerate the shadows and silhouettes against the outside light.

In my camera bag

In my bag I always have my Canon Rebel T5. My lens is 55mm and I also bring a macro lens for the occasional portrait. Then of course I pack my cleaning supplies, typically a cloth and spay. A little photography tip is BRING Q TIPS!!! They are perfect for wiping off the corner of the lens which a regular cloth can't reach. They also take up little to no room!

Feedback

My advice is to be comfortable with your camera and practice, practice, practice. It's not an easy task to take a clear picture with busy commuters bumping into you left and right. For a high contrast shot make sure your exposer is turned down. That'll give you the dark aspect to it.
