Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during the Australia Day CARnivale in Sydney City. This is an annual event happening on 26/01 every year. I would normally visit the Parliament which will be open to public only on Australia Day. Close the Parliament building, spawning nearly 5 street will be the 'CARnivale' show, where all veteran, vintage and classic cars will be on display.

Time

This photo was taken around midday, on Jan 26. There was a light drizzle which added to the overall frostiness to the image.

Lighting

It was only during my third visit to CARnivale did I get the confidence to capture the event. The main reason being, Jan is always the hottest month in Australia and with no clouds, it will normally be a bland image. But this year, I had the pity of the rain Gods, with a slight drizzle blanketing the whole city.

Equipment

Canon 600D, 28mm F/3.5 Macro

Inspiration

I always look for a subjects within a subject. Rather than capturing the entire vehicle (which I eventually did), I wanted to capture its inherent nature. This single picture will present an overall scope of the car in the viewer's mind.

Editing

Since there is not much background involved and is an abstract image, I just focused on altering the brightness/contrast of this picture

In my camera bag

Rather than buying stuff in bulk, I normally purchase items as and when required. For example, I started off without a tripod and was shooting without one for almost a year, only to realize the magic a tripod brings. Currently my kit includes a Canon 600D, 18-55mm lens, 28mm F/3.5 Macro lens and a 18-200mm lens, a tripod.

Feedback

Look out for images within images rather than focusing on subjects that stand-out. This will give an entirely new perspective for both the person capturing the image and also the viewer.
