Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken poolside on vacation in Ocho Rios Jamaica in the Riu hotel Resort. I wanted to see the scenery and decided to bring my camera along just in case I saw something like this.Time
This was taken near midnight specifically because I was hoping to steer clear of other vacationers to capture a more still environment. With just my camera in hand and no tripod I had to improvise and lay on the ground for a more balanced shot.Lighting
Pools are lovely in general especially at night but this one stood out to me more than any other. With the lights being placed on the pool floor rather than on the side I witnessed an almost eerie effect. The placement created a gradient on the surface going from white to a darkened blue. The surface out of the pool was in contrast as well making the pool stand out so much more.Equipment
My choice for this job was the Nikon D80 with the 50mm lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
Night time photos are difficult for me especially since I usually don't use a tripod. The shutter always takes longer to close therefore my images always come out blurred since my hold is unsteady. I wanted more experience with this so I went out during the night instead of trying get some sleep.Editing
No processing what so ever. I don't have experience with photo editing at all so I stuck to my guns. All the photos including this one is as raw as they come.In my camera bag
I normally am just with the camera since its easier and more convenient. Also due to my lack of experience I decided to focus on learning the basics of photography. In the future I hope to be well enough to carry a variety of lenses, a film camera, a tripod and multiple styles of memory units ( film and memory cards).Feedback
Be organized. Choose your weapon wisely and learn about it's many features. Get so familiar with it you can recite it in your sleep. From there you can experiment with different types of photography. As you progress become familiar with attachments to help you grow as a photographer. A jack of all trades and cameras is convenient, but a master will always be more successful at creating a masterpiece.
