Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Phuket Thailand, this huge marble-clad Buddha stands on a hill overlooking the city.

Time

It was morning. About 10. cloudy skies with some shy sun appearances.

Lighting

As I said the sky was covered and the sun from behind the clouds sent a diffused light that helped in the backlight as in this case.

Equipment

I used a 650d canon with standard lens 18-55, no tripod, no flash, single manual shutter with aperture priority. At the time I was a little 'inexperienced with the photographic technique, but luck helps beginners.

Inspiration

I found myself among dozens of people taking pictures of the statue from the front. I do not like being around a lot of people, and I do not even like being in the sun. So I moved behind the statue and for a few minutes the sun was covered by clouds. When I looked up I liked the scene and tried to do it quickly and take some pictures from various angles and zoomed. This was my favorite.

Editing

I used Lightroom, after various tests I arrived at this result. I deliberately wanted to get a visual result that would remember my favorite video game "Shadow of the Colossus" and I was satisfied.

In my camera bag

Normally I take photos of urbex so I try to travel light. I use the 650 canon with a 10-20 sigma wide-angle lens and a sony rx100 first model for details. If I can do I do not miss the tripod.

Feedback

I'm not a teacher, on the contrary, I still have a lot to learn. The only advice I can give is to take as few photos as possible. Pretend to be in the 90s and to have only one roll of 36 poses. At that time we thought a lot more before shooting. Perhaps having been there has helped me to focus more on substance than quantity. Saludos !!
