Behind The Lens

Location

Near the Connecticut River in northern Connecticut

Time

Afternoon

Lighting

For wildlife photography you have to use what's available so I make sure I've got my white balance and metering mode set accordingly. Wait for your subject to turn toward the light.

Equipment

Canon 70D, Tamron 50-500mm, handheld

Inspiration

I love Eagles. This one was right above me as it was flying back to its nest

Editing

I do minimal editing other than cropping and at times sharpening and contrast.

In my camera bag

Large rogue flashbender, Gary Fong light sphere, Flashpoint flash from Adorama, Canon 70D, Canon 24-70 2.8 L lens, 70-200mm 2.8 L lens

Feedback

Patience is the key with wildlife. For moving subjects I shoot in AI Servo, JPEG format so my camera doesn't stop to buffer. I make sure I'm using the proper metering mode too for the lighting I have. I generally shoot at an f stop of 10 and I'm not afraid to go up on my ISO. A blurry picture is less desirable to me than a noisy one.
