Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the deck of my home in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia.

Time

It was taken in a series of shots beginning around 6:30 pm ET on Thursday, July 21. My husband and I were just finishing dinner when we noticed these two young rascals raiding our bird feeders.

Lighting

Honestly, there was nothing special about the lighting. It was early evening on the East coast of the US. Not quite dusk, but I knew the light was fading fast, and I just wanted to shoot as many pictures as possible with the available light.

Equipment

I used the Nikon Coolpix L840. It was a Christmas gift from my husband.

Inspiration

Nature inspires me. The bold and fearless behavior of these two young raccoons just begged to be caught on camera!

Editing

I am such a beginner and frequently post-process my shots as a way to learn. This shot however, seemed perfect to me and I didn't want to change anything about it, so I did no post processing to it.

In my camera bag

Just the camera, the Nikon Coolpix L840, and a miniature tripod.

Feedback

Always have your camera with you. Be prepared for surprises. Shoot everything that looks interesting, colorful, or that evokes an emotion. Pay attention to waning light. Have fun! Shoot lots of pictures as a way to get better. Keep learning.
